LIVE Tours from Italy!

Follow our Italian tour guides, Mirella & Debora, and let them take you around an Italian city, in real time, from your living room!

The Covid 19 pandemic has put the world “on hold”, preventing people from traveling. While this is certainly irritating for most of us, it is actually devastating for Italian tour guides who can no longer lead groups of tourists through cities and museums.

To help alleviate the situation, we have partnered with Mirella and Debora, two tour guides based in Milan, who will offer live tours on Zoom so that we can travel in real time, but without leaving the house.

In addition to being licensed tour guides, Mirella and Debora are also teachers of Italian as a second language. They will offer Tours in Italian for students of Italian interested in practicing the language, and Tours in English for everyone who loves Italy - but does not yet speak Italian.

March tour: i navigli di milano (Milan’s waterways) Saturday, March 27

Milan is a city that developed around its canals and waterways. On this tour we’ll visit the neighbourhood that still preserves the ancient watery spirit of the city: I Navigli. Along the road that takes to Ticinum (Pavia) we’ll see the paleo-Christian basilica of San Lorenzo and its beautiful portico with 16 Roman columns from the 1st century A.D. We’ll stop at Sant’Eustorgio, the meeting place of the first Christian community in Milan and famous for its relics of the three kings. We’ll pass through the medieval and Spanish gates and arrive at the Darsena, the port that was the centre of international exchange and commerce. From here we can admire the two canals that are still open, the Naviglio Grande and the Pavese. Their construction involved politicians, engineers, architects, and common people over various periods.

During the tour, there will be the opportunity to enter the courtyard of a traditional residential building with its charming cobblestones and balconies full of flowers and green.

We’ll walk along the canals and visit some characteristic shops and the colourful food market. We’ll talk and interact with owners of the shops who will explain us the Milanese life along i Navigli.

FEBRUARY TOUR: Leonardo’s The Last Supper - February 25 & 26

The Last Supper is the outstanding painting realized by Leonardo da Vinci at the end of the XV century by the order of his Lord, the Duke of Milan, Ludovico il Moro. For centuries, this masterpiece has intrigued everyone with its fascinating symbolism, becoming an icon of western art. It depicts the instant in which Jesus announces to the apostles that he knows one of them will betray him, showing the reactions and emotional tensions of the characters. We’ll start the tour from the lovely square in front of the church and the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie where the Last Supper is kept. We’ll look at the striking dome designed by architect Donato Bramante and considered the most beautiful renaissance monument in the city.
